An automaton ( /ɔːˈtɒmətən/; plural: automata or automatons) is a self-operating machine, or a machine or control mechanism designed to automatically follow a predetermined sequence of operations, or respond to predetermined instructions.[1] Some automata, such as bellstrikers in mechanical clocks, are designed to give the illusion to the casual observer that they are operating under their own power.

Mechanical Fairy

handcut aluminium wings and wooden fairy bodyclockgears with handmade mechanism, hollow piece of tree-trunk wich hides the mechanism and base made of walnut and walnut veneer with a custom brass crank (2017)
Turning the cranck makes the fairy move up and down and flaps the wings in a very life-like motion.

wood painted to look like metal, acrylic glass, parts of a pencil sharpener and camera, LED and a small generator from a handcrancked flashlight, handcut wooden gears and some tinplate (2017)
Turning the cranck in the right eye causes the gears to turn, makes the mouthpiece 'talk' and a red LED to light up in the left eye (a camera iris with lens).
